Organic / Synthetic Chemistry
Dr Omolo obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in December 2011. He currently works as an organic chemist and principal research scientist at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) in Tanzania. His research interests are in organic chemistry, both phytochemistry (natural products) and synthesis. He is currently carrying out the isolation and synthesis of bioactive secondary metabolites from Tanzanian medicinal plants. He is interested in their antimicrobial, anti-HIV and anti-cancer activities.
