SADC (Southern African Development Community)
The SADC is an inter-governmental organisation representing 15 southern Africa states. It aims to
promote sustainable and equitable economic growth and socio-economic development through efficient
productive systems, deeper co-operation and integration, good governance, and durable peace and
security. It also addresses the misappropriation of indigenous knowledge systems, and the issues of
indigenous intellectual property rights.
Linkages between SABINA/POL-SABINA and the SADC are facilitated through NEPAD-SANBio,
and the South African Department of Science and Technology.
