SABINA recently sponsored Ms Naickers’ conference attendance at the International Conference and Exhibition on Targeting Diabetes and Novel Therapeutics. The conference was held in Las Vegas from the 14th to 16th September 2015.

Nikita presented two posters at the conference, on her current project, which focuses on the possible therapeutic use of Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graceum) to treat diabetes. She was awarded 2nd prize in the poster competition for her poster.

When asked about her experience at the conference Nikita expressed her gratitude to SABINA for affording her the opportunity of attending the conference, which she would not normally have been able to attend. She went on to say “attending the conference has allowed me to interact with different types of people in the field of research – giving me an opportunity to network with people and share my research. It also allowed me to place my work and the department I belong to in perspective to others around the world. I feel the exposure I gained will aid me in collaborating with other scientists and provide a foundation for ground breaking research in the field of diabetes. Attending this conference allowed me to also experience a new city. Allowing me to add to my knowledge, experience and broaden my horizons on another country.”

Ms Naicker’s conference attendance was made possible by the funding to SABINA from the Department of Science and Technology in South Africa. She is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. AA. Chuturgoon at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
